Modern Ancient

Breathing simply becomes ‘breathwork’ when you add attention and energy to it, becoming aware of the breath.

The term Breathwork comes from the Sanskrit term ‘Pranayama' meaning yoga breathing - ‘prana’ meaning life force and ‘yama’ meaning extension or control. Breathwork has been practiced for centuries in various cultures around the world. In ancient India, for instance, the practice of pranayama was said to control the flow of life energy or prana in the body. The Taoists in China believed that breathwork could be used to cultivate energy (chi), while in Greece, the philosopher Aristotle suggested that the breath was a primary source of life. The re-emergence of Breathwork in western culture began in the consciousness raising era of 1960’s and 70’s in California with Leonard Orr + Rebirthing and Stan Grof, M.D + Holotropic breathwork, involving the conscious control and regulation of breathing patterns to encourage relaxation, release of emotions, and healing. Today, the practice is gaining increasing recognition as a powerful tool for personal growth and transformation.

The technique I use is a unique and illuminating, guided, three part, ‘active breath’, awakening our life force energy and connecting us to the beautiful liminal space between consciousness and sleep, allowing us to shift energy, moving it freely it through the body, clearing and releasing as it goes. Using sound and gentle movement, we experience a sense of deep connection and liberation.

The active part of the meditation is about 30 minutes and afterwards we move into the ‘resting breath’, where you’ll bathe in the energy you’ve created for around 10-15 mins. Afterwards you’ll gently come back to sitting and get grounded, integrating your experience.

My work is a blend of breath, expression, compassionate listening and reflection. I incorporate the elements: earth, fire, water and air and use music, blended essential oils, bespoke playlists and dark chocolate to create an uplifting experience.

I trained in person with mentor, David Elliott in New Mexico, completing levels 1-5 in person and blend breathwork with compassionate listening and intuitive insights. Over 5 years I have worked with thousands of adults, couples and young people: 1:2:1, in groups, in creative workspaces and at festivals.

My mission is to connect people to the power of love… beginning with self love - the starting point of all healing journeys. I bring many years of life experience: in long term relationship, parenting, body love, authentic self expression and sobriety. My area of expertise is connecting to your voice, communication and stepping into your power - at any age or life stage.

I am also a qualified Qoya Inspired Movement teacher and qualified YogaBody® Breathing coach.
